Wednesday, 7/25/12 Report

Posted on 26 July 2012 by Lou Russo

Location: Raritan Bay
Tide: High 1:28pm
Water Temp: 77.1°
Wind: N 10kts
Moon Phase: 41% Full

Conditions
We will have flood tide with a decent north wind to start the day. Not going to be the greatest of conditions.

Flukemaster Pool Update
The July pool is currently up to $560.00 and Anthony Rullo is still in the lead with a 6lb 8oz fish. Time is running out to catch the big one!

Angler Alert
If your in the pool today you need to know that Steve “Bow to your Sensei” Kerry is onboard. Steve has won 5 straight pools and has 11 wins on the season. There is no one hotter than him right now. Lets see if someone can take him down today!

Steve is so hot right now women are getting his face tattooed on their bodies!

First Drift
Ray Angotti got us started with the first keeper of the day. There were a couple dozen other fish caught that were released back into the wild.

Second Drift
We have a bit of a slider going on today. The lines are running to the northeast and the boat is going to the northwest making for some tangles. We are slowly picking at the fluke with the majority of the fish being released.

Third Drift
We are fishing in the holes that our to our north. We get shots of fish when we go up and down the edges, but not much in the deep of them. There were a couple of keepers caught on this one, but for the most part it was all shorts.

Fourth Drift
We are still fishing the holes to our north. We catch some fish each time we go through them, however,  we do not keep much. Ray Angotti currently has the largest fluke on the boat which weighs 4 1/2 pounds.

Fifth Drift
Slow pickins on this one. The highlight of  the drift was a 5 1/2 pounder which was caught Walter Petko. The wind has calmed down considerably. We are going to try a set of holes to our east.

Sixth Drift
We caught a few nice fish on this one up to 6 pounds. Running up for a redux.

Seventh Drift
We slowly pick at the fluke. It is not great by any means, but we do catch the occasional nice fish.

This is a kingfish that was snagged by a jig.

Eighth Drift
Some shorts with a keeper or two mixed in.

Fluking was ok today, but we did suffer from a horrific keeper ratio. I would give it a 2.5 out of 5 stars on the fishing, and 1/2 stars on the keeping. Mary Ann Grossman was the streak buster today, ending Steve Kerry’s 5 trip pool winning streak. There are a lot of women around the country who are going to get tattoos lasered off their bodies.

Since I am working tonight I will keep the Live Updates going. Win, lose or draw I let you know how the evening went.

Round 2

Location: Lower Raritan Bay
Tide: Low 7:42pm
Water Temp: 79.7°
Wind: W 7kts

Conditions
Excellent conditions to start the evening with a west wind pushing us along with the outgoing water. We will be fishing different grounds than we were fishing this morning. Going to try the flats that are northeast of our harbor.

First Drift
Well, all I can say that it was a start. We caught a couple of shorts. We are making a slight shift to a shoal that is a little west of us. We haven’t looked at it in over a week, so we will give it a shot.

Second Drift
We caught the first three keepers of the night with the biggest belonging to Laura Burg weighing in at 5 1/2 pounds.

Third Drift
Made this one in the Reach. We haven’t caught many fish in the channel this year. The Reach is usually gold for us every year, but this season the fluke have not been in it in any abundance. . . We caught a 4 pound keeper and a couple shorts. We are going to make the next one on the flats to the north of the channel.

Fourth Drift
Not good. Only a couple of shorts. Jumping back into the channel and giving it another look.

Fifth Drift
We S L O W pick at some shorts. Making the next one off the channel.

The fishing was not good this evening. We tried a lot of different areas, but they just did not  want to bite. Laura Burg won the pool with a 5lb 3oz fluke.

Check back tomorrow for more live updates.
