Day 2 wasn’t as good as day 1. We had issues drifting for most of the morning. Things improved slightly after the tide change, but we still didn’t catch as much as yesterday. “Mr. June” Danny Martin won today’s pool with a 3.6 pound fluke which also is in the lead for the May/June Flukemaster Pool.

Opening day 2010!!
We made our way to the usual opening day grounds, The Coast Guard Station at Sandy Hook, and found the fish waiting for us. Dave Plumacher officially started the season for us by catching the first keeper of 2010. Fishing remained good all day, and the average catch was close to 20 shorts with a keeper or two mixed in. John Hannah won today’s pool making it two consecutive years winning the opening day prize. Today was a great start to what looks to be an excellent season!!

We will be running the Flukemaster Classic pool again this fluke season which consists of monthly and season pools for the heaviest fluke. The only rule change that will be made is that the last week of May will count for the June pool, and the August pool will run through the end of the season. Here is a link to the Flukemaster page from last season. Click here

We headed to some new ground for 2010, steaming all the way to Rockaway, NY, a trip that would prove to be unsuccessful. Made our way back to where we had our best fishing yesterday in hopes of an encore, and it paid off as we finished the day strong!! Rookie fisherman Mike Contri won todays pool with a 25 pound bass, and Mike Iskandar caught his limit up to 20 pounds.

The day began slow, but finished HOT!!! We put 12 keepers in the boat during the final hour of the day. Alwin Klein caught the biggest of the day weighing in at just over 20 pounds. His son Les Klein chipped in with a 17 pound fish. George Best won the pool with an 18 pound bass.

We will not be sailing this weekend due to high winds. We will see you on Wednesday morning.

We beat up the bass and bluefish pretty good last night. We caught over 30 bass and probably just as many blues. Auggie Berlingieri won the pool with a 15 pound bass.

If your name was Jimmy or Kenny you were in luck!! Jimmy Bufis and Ken “The Legend” Havens put on a clinic today by completely DOMINATING the bass grounds. Their performance would rival any Sunday morning ESPN saltwater show that is on. . . If your name was not Jimmy or Ken, you just watched in envy. Kenny Havens won todays pool with a 17 pound bass.

The bass fishing was a million times better than it was Friday night. It still wasn’t great, but we did see some action through the day. Dave Plumacher caught his limit for the second straight Saturday, and won the pool with a 25 pound fish. Ended the day with 9 keepers on board.

Nothing to report regarding Friday nights fishing. It was horrible.

Rookie bass fisherman, Michael Ginerelli, was on a tear catching his limit up to 22 pounds including the pool winner.
