Flounder fishing was slow over the weekend. We fished from outside of our harbor to the Keansburg area, and the water temperature is still in the upper 40's. On Friday we had 14 keepers, with the majority of them being caught on the change of tide. Saturday was our best day with 16 fish. Sunday was just plain poor! We caught a few fish on the tide change in the morning, and then the wind came up out of the east, and that was it. Not another bite on the day.
Slow fishing again today. Could only muster up 7 fish again. Rob Morison won todays pool and was also high hook with 3 fish. Water temps are still in the mid 40's.
It was good to get the season officially started today. Anchored up outside of our harbor. The wind was still blowing a good 20 knots out of the W - NW, and water temperature was a balmy 47 degrees. Fishing wasn't to good. We didn't see any flounder until the change of tide when we caught 6. We did see some striper action after the change, and ended up catching 2 keeper bass and another half doz shorts. Overall fishing wasn't good, but it was a start.
Mike Mayvish of South Amboy, caught the first flounder and won the first pool of the year.
Beginning today access to the boat will only available through the western end of American Legion Drive. That is the entrance next to Mike's Subs and the large municipal parking lot. You will no longer be able to access the entrance by the boat ramp due to construction. Click on the link below for a larger view of the map.
