We found them today. Some said it would never be done with an 18 inch size limit, but today we had 2 limits on the boat. The conditions were perfect to start the day with a west wind pushing us along with an outgoing tide. Starting catching fish immediately. Keeper ratio was very good for some. Jimmy Chambers and Al Skowronski both caught their limit of fluke.
Today's pool was won by Jill Witzl. Jill caught fire midway through the day and was able to land this beast to take the pot.
There is a new sheriff in town, and his name is Al!!!
Kenny Havens showed why he is called "The Legend" around these parts by battling through a tough day of fishing to capture today's pool winner. Around mid day there were reports of "The Legend" digging deep inside of his tackle box and rigging a "Banjo Minnow" on his line to seal the deal.
Pretty poor day of weather and fishing today. Started in the back of the bay where we had good fishing on Sunday. Drifting conditions were good with a very hard north wind, but of course, no fluke. Worked the channel and then headed to the flats outside of our harbor. After more disappointment we headed north to Great Kills and managed to get a very slow pick going. Only ended up with a few keepers on the boat. "The Legend" Kenny Havens, Hoboken, NJ, battles through a tough day to win the pool.
Disappointing day of fishing today. Started where we left them biting yesterday, but it just didn't happen. We had good conditions with a hard west wind pushing us down the channel. Tried working in the area we caught them the best , but eventually we had to move on. Worked our way east all the way to the Belford Flats, but could only get a slow pick going at the best. Wasn't as bad as Saturday, but not nearly as good as yesterday. Water temps are still cold for this time of year. The highest we read was 69 degrees. We'll try again tomorrow!!
Today we changed the area up completely from yesterday, and it paid off!! Fished the western side of the bay, where conditions were favorable when we left the dock, but wouldn't you know, 20 minutes after we drop the lines, the wind shifted out of the west just enough to hold us up against a very light flood tide. Fortunately for us, it didn't matter. The fluke wanted to eat! Had a good pick for most of the day. High hook had 7 keepers, with many people keeping 4 and 5 fish. Today's pool winner was a 4 pound fluke.
Started our day at our usual opening day fluke spot off the Coast Guard station at Sandy Hook. Water temperature was 57 degrees (which is still a little too cold) and wouldn't you know it -we had wind against tide! Fishing wasn't great so we changed the area and went outside the hook into the ocean, and still could only muster up a slow pick. Tried a few different places but couldn't get anything consistent going. Lenny Borer caught the first keeper for this season, and Chris (sorry can't recall his last name) won today's pool. Overall the day wasn't great but we got a start!
Lenny Borer offically started the 2008 Fluke Season for us by catching this 20 inch Fluke.
Aim high. . . .
Oooooh Ahhhhhh!!!!!
The 2008 Fluke Season begins in 5 days. Get your Gamakatsu's ready!!!!
We made it out today and headed to Old Orchard in hopes of catching the "Always Elusive" striped bass. Anchored up and caught nothing. After the change of tide around 8:30 we noticed some surface life to the east. Headed to the ocean and had a hour of pretty good fishing on jigs. Alot of bluefish with some good sized bass below them. Had two limits on bass and a couple of other people with one bass a piece. Once the "Hour of Power" was over, we continued to stop on some good readings, but the best had passed.

I know that there are some gaps in the time line of my posts. This is because we have not been sailing regularly. Just like many other businesses in today's economy, we are having a VERY slow spring. However, I prefer to look at our situation as being the glass is half full. With the upcoming Fluke season beginning in just over a week, and the summer season still on the horizon, I am looking forward to fishing with all of you, and continuing to keep everyone informed on the many great catches we will put together.
It was nice to be out fishing today after a week of sitting at the dock. The weather had us tucked away for a few days behind Staten Island, and we didn't sail the other couple of days because of lack of customer participation.
The weather was beautiful, and the Ling fishing was very good. The average catch was 20 Ling per angler. We saw a few keeper Sea Bass and 1 keeper Cod also.
