Caught a ton of fish to start the day, but had trouble keeping anything. Moved to some rough spots on the northern part of the bay, but more of the same. Changed it up, and headed offshore a bit, and caught some very nice sized porgies on a drift. Finished the day with good fishing. Dave Plumacher won todays pool with a 3 pound sea bass. Dave also had 4 other keeper sea bass on the day. Todays high hook had 25 porgies.
The weatherman was right again!!! 85 degrees and sunny. Well, it was really 65 and rainy, and the porgies and sea bass didn't bite all that good. Caught them pretty good in the morning before the weather got bad, but not much after that. High hook was Shorty, Paterson, NJ, with 35 porgies.
Porgy fishing was excellent today. Started slow out on the reef, but we came back inside to a couple of rough spots, and caught them good. High hook had 70 porgies.
Well, nothing to report. The Weaks have moved out of the bay. We have switched over to Porgies and Sea Bass.
A hard North wind definitely hurt the fishing today. Started the day out at the Sandy Hook Reef. Made a few shifts, and could only get a slow pick of porgies. Made a move back into the bay, and had better fishing. Picked the porgies for the last hour. Saw a lot of Sea Bass, however only two were keepers. Was not a great day, but this is only the beginning for this fishery.
Just a reminder that starting today our schedule is as following.
Porgies / Sea Bass - Wednesday's and Saturday's from 7:30 to 4:00
Weakfish - Sun, Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri. from 7:30 to 2:30
The last 3 days of the 2007 Fluke season were not good. We fished all along the Reach channel over the last few days, and couldn't really produce a significant catch. We had good conditions, and read a lot of bait, but the fluke just are not here anymore in abundance. Kind of a disappointing end to what was a pretty good fluking season.
Tough day of fluking. Started on the western end of the Reach channel, and worked our way east. Not much of anything. Made a couple of drifts out in Sandy Hook Channel, but more of the same. Headed back into the bay, but couldn't get anything going. Long tough day.
Most of you that fish with us and know me, know that I am a huge football fan. With the NFL opening tonight, I just want to wish everyone, and their teams good luck. We are all undefeated right now, and feeling pretty good going into the season, but I'll be the one celebrating on February 3rd, 2008 as my QB is holding the Lombardi Trophy over his head, and the confetti is raining on my team. Let the "Bring the Pain" Tour start now!!!!
Well, you can't catch yesterday's fish!!! Today stunk!! Had absolutely HORRIBLE drifting conditions in the morning. We were where we left off yesterday, and we didn't move 50 feet all morning. Headed east in hopes of getting some current, but didn't see any fish. Tried a ledge so the south of the channel, and just had a slow pick of shorts. Headed back to where we caught them yesterday. The conditions completely changed. The breeze out of the south east picked up with the incoming tide, and we went from not moving at all, to using 8 to 10 oz. to hold. Not a good day at all.
Good day of fishing today. Started around the western side of the Reach Channel. Had a good first drift. Jimmy Chambers, Edison, NJ, had 5 keeper fluke, and Timmy Dickerson had 3 keepers on the first one. After that the fishing slowed. Worked our way east a few miles, but the fishing got worse. Headed back to where we started the morning, and had a good change of tide bite. The good fishing continued to the end of the trip. By far the best day we have had in over a week. High hook had 7 keepers, and the pool winning fish was a 5 pounder.
Slow day today. Fished the Reach channel. Didn't have the greatest of conditions with the wind against the tide. Slowly picked some fluke. Mostly shorts.
Started the morning where we wrapped up yesterday, and had a very good shot of fish to start. Mostly keepers were caught, and Harvey Weyouche, Hoboken, NJ, had 3 keepers on the first drift. We had pretty good conditions, and an ok pick of fish, but the ship traffic ended that. Three ships came through in a hour, and that was it for the fishing. Came off the channel to a spot a little south east of the Reach, but nothing happening there. Finished the day back in the Reach, slowly picking the fluke. The first couple drifts were the highlight of the day. Just ok after that. Harvey "The Hit Man" Weyouche was deadly up in the pulpit earning high hook honors with 7 keepers. Today's pool winning fish was a small one. Only around 3 1/2 pounds.
O.K. fishing today. A lot of shorts. The ratio wasn't too good. Fishied the western side of the bay, and worked our way east out the Reach. Had some shots of fish, but like I said, the ratio was way down. High hook was 5 keepers, and the pool winning fish was 4 pounds.
