The long and short of it!!  Lou "The Legend Killer", and Frank, holding up today's largest and smallest fluke. Both were caught at the within seconds of each other, but with different results. Lou's fish was 6 pounds, and Franks came in at 6 inches. Be proud Frank!!

We had good fishing to start the day in the Reach Channel until a combination of slack water, and an outbound ship came by that basically shut every thing down. Headed to the Keansburg buoy, but nothing other than shorts were caught. After letting the water in the channel settle for a while, we headed back to it. Finished the day picking fish. A lot of shorts, and a good amount of keepers too. Much improved fishing from earlier in the week. A good amount of bait life around, and a lot of fluke came over the rail. Today's high hook was George Cariglia with 7 keepers. George also caught over twenty shorts on the day. Today's major award winner was Lou Delmastro with a 6 pound fluke.

It takes talent to catch the "18" Buoy in the Reach Channel. Mike did a textbook, ESPN Sportsman hook setting job on it!!

IMG_4006.JPG

Fluking bounced back a little today. Saw a lot of shorts, along with some keepers. Drifting again was a struggle. Didn't really move till well after the tide change. We are still fishing the Reach Channel. There are some fish along the the western to midway point of the channel. Whenever we got a little movement, we would get a shot of fish. Kind of a long day, but the keepers did add up for some people, others had difficulty catching one that measured up. Today's high hook was Willie Wakefield with 6 keepers, and today's pool was shared by Kenny "G.F.Y." Havens, and Georgie, with a 5 1/2 pound fluke.

Tuesday, 8/28/07 Report

Poor day. Had no float at all, and that made for a long day of fluking. Basically because I have nothing to report, I am going to give you an update for the fishing in Islamorada, Florida. Why you ask? No reason at all, other than you get to read something different, and you don't have to read about me complaining about today's drifting conditions. For one moment maybe you can imaging yourself in paradise.   Click Here

Linda Richardson won today's pool with this 5 1/2 pound fluke.

Tough fishing today following a very good weekend. Had horrible drifting conditions with the wind against the tide all day.Caught a few fish, but nothing to rave about. Today's pool winner was Linda Richardson with a 5 1/2 pound fluke.

Jim Handy won today's pool with this 6 pound fluke. Jim has been "en fuego" lately, winning four pools during the month of August.

The good fishing continued from yesterday. Fished the same area, and beat up the fluke again. Alot of fish were caught. Well over 100 keepers on the boat. A good amount of shorts were in the mix also. A number of people had their limits, and Jim Handy won today's pool with a 6 pound fluke. Sorry so short on the report, but WWE Summer Slam is about to begin, so grab your rod, and get in the game because there is only 15 days left in the 2007 Fluke season. Lets all finish strong!!!

Saturday, 8/25/07 Report

Excellent fishing today!!! Stayed in the back of the bay, along the Reach Channel, and caught the fluke very good. We had perfect drifting conditions, and the fluke were finally ready to bite after the horrible weather this past week.  Read a ton of bait life on the bottom, and saw all kinds of life on the surface. This is the first time we have seen this since the storms. Mike Melillo was today's high hook with his limit of 8 fish, and there were quite a few other people with 6 and 7 keepers. The fishing slowed a little around the change of tide, but bounced right back after we got some float with the incoming water. Today's pool winner was a 5 pound fluke. Very good day of fishing!!!!

Friday, 8/24/07 Report

We started the morning on the Reach Channel. Had a slow pick of fluke. We had horrible drifting conditions with the wind up against an outgoing tide, but we did slow pick mostly shorts with an occasional keeper mixed in. Around the change of tide things got a little better. We started to move a bit, and continued to pick the fluke, but the ratio was better. Ended the day with an OK shot of keepers. High hook was 6 fish, and the pool winner was a 5 pound fluke.

Thursday, 8/23/07 Report

Started the morning on the western side of the Reach Channel. Slowly picked some fish. Had a little shot of fluke with the change of tide around 11:00, but it didn't hold up. Changed the area, and tried the Keansburg buoy, and then the eastern side of the Reach, but it was a slow pick. High hook was 5 keepers, and today's pool winner was Lou "The Legend Killer" Delmastro, with a 4 pound fluke.

Wednesday, 8/22/07 Report

Another slow day. The weather has really hampered our efforts on dominating the fluke species. We fished alot of places, and only picked a few on each one. We need this rain, and east wind to quit, so we can get things going again.

Season Countdown

Just a reminder that there is only 21 days remaining in the 2007 Fluke season. So if you are looking to catch that doormat before the season ends, time is running out!!!!

Monday, 8/20/07 Report

The bad weather kept us at the dock today.

Sunday, 8/19/07 Report

Started the morning where we left them biting yesterday, and caught them very good. We had horrible drifting conditions due to the change of tide, and it seemed like it took forever for us to get some float, but the fluke bit anyway. Alot of keepers, and shorts. The ratio was probably around 5 to 1, which isn't bad. Quite a few people with their limits, and a few with 6 and 7 keepers. Today's pool winner was a 5 pound fluke.

Saturday, 8/18/07 Report

What a nice summertime morning!! Arrived at the boat as it was blowing 40 knots out of the northwest, and put on another layer of clothing. It felt like striper weather, not summertime fluking. Anyway, we headed to Great Kills Harbor, S.I., and managed to have a slow pick of extremely short shorts. We would scrap up a keeper or two a drift, but it was not good, and our only option with the weather the way it was. Late in the trip, the wind eased off a little, and we set up on the Reach for one last drift, on the change of tide. Caught the fluke very good, and most were keepers. Unfortunately, it was the end of the trip, and we had to head in. It's tough leaving them biting, especially after the long day we had. High hook was 5 keepers, and the pool winner was a 4 pound fluke.

Friday, 8/17/07 Report

Headed to Ambrose Channel to begin the day, and it was a little slow to start. Made our way out the channel, and found the fish. Had some very good moments with shorts, and a few keepers. The keeper ratio was way down, and some people caught close to 20 shorts with a keeper or two mixed in. After the fishing slowed, we headed to Sandy Hook Channel to finish the day. Had very good fishing here also, however the ratio was still way down. Overall it was a good day of fishing. Keeping was tough.

Thursday, 8/16/07 Report

IMG_3927.JPG

"Big Daddy" was the biggest of the day with this 6 pound Fluke.

Fished Ambrose Channel all day, and caught alot of fish. The keeper ratio wasn't too good, but some managed to do ok. High hook was Kenny "The Man, Myth, & Legend" Havens, Hoboken, NJ, with 6 fish, and today's pool winner was "Big Daddy" with a 6 pound fluke.

Wednesday, 8/15/07 Report

Began the morning with some good ol' Ambrose Channel madness. Lines going eveywhere, and some good tangles, but it was worth it because the first two drifts of the day were the best we have seen in about a week. A good amount of keepers were caught, and alot of shorts came up. One person had his limit by 11:30am. After the current became too fast, we headed to the Reach. We did pick a few fish, but the best of the day had already been done. Much improved fishing today. Probably the best fishing since last Friday. Today's pool winner was 5 pounds.

Tuesday, 8/14/07 Report

Went to Ambrose Channel to start the morning. Had some very difficult conditions with the wind and tide. We did pick some shorts and keepers. Made our way back to the Reach Channel for the tide change. Had a couple of shots of fish. Fishing was a little better than yesterday, but it still is not too good. Once again, we did see  quite a few more shorts today than what we have been seeing. Today's high hook had 7 fish, and the pool winner was 4 pounds.

Monday, 8/13/07

Started the morning in the Ambrose we saw alot more short fish then we have seen in the last few days. Picked a few keepers untill the current got too fast. We made our way to the middle of the Bay where we spent the remainder of the day, having shots of some keepers and shorts, Todays fishing wasn't great but better then the last few days.

Sunday, 8/12/07 Report

Slow day today fished the Reach Channel and the Ambrose Channel. Had a very slow pick of shorts and keepers. Toaday's pool winner was Jim Handy with a 4 pound fluke and high hook with 5 fish.

Saturday's Pool Winner

IMG_3823.JPG

Today's pool winner was Harvey Weyouche, Hoboken, NJ, with a 5 pound fluke.

Saturday, 8/11/07 Report

IMG_3831.JPG

John Bottles, Edison, NJ, was today's high hook with 6 keeper fluke. If Mr. Bottles spent more time concentrating on angling, instead of daydreaming about sailboats, maybe he would have had his limit. (haha)

Not too good of a day today. Started in the Reach Channel, and didn't have the greatest conditions, so we headed to the northern part of the bay. We found much better drifting conditions, but the fish didn't want to bite. We did have alot of rain on Friday, and sometime that affects the fishing. Made a drift along Ambrose Channel, and slowly picked some fish to end the day. Today's high hook was John Bottles, Edison, NJ, with 6 fluke, and the pool winner was Harvey Weyouche, Hoboken, NJ, with a 4.8 pound fluke.

Friday, 8/10/07 Report

Didn't sail today because of the weather.

Thursday, 8/9/07 Report

IMG_3819.JPG

Started the day on the western side of the Reach channel. Not too much happening to start the day, because we had wind against tide. Worked our way east a bit to the middle of the Reach. The wind came on out of the southeast around the tide change at 11:30, and we started putting together a nice catch. Caught them very well for the last two hours of the trip. Had a couple of limits, and a few people near it. Today's pool winner was Ryan Bielak, Sayreville, NJ, with a 7.14 pound Fluke.

August 08, 2007

Wednesday, 8/8/07 Report

Only had a handful of people today. We fished the Reach Channel, and made some long drifts along the edge. Had a slow pick of shorts, and keepers. It wasn't great fishing, but it wasn't too bad either. Carmine Mangini, Keyport, NJ, was today's high hook with 7 keepers, and the pool winner was a 4 pound fish.

Another Aberdeen, NJ, superstar. This time it's Bob Oshinski holding a 10.1 pound fluke that he caught in Ambrose Channel today.

Started the morning fishing the western end of the bay, but could not get any drifting conditions at all. Gave up on the area, and headed for Ambrose Channel to catch the change of tide. We did pick some fish for the remainder of the trip. The keeper ratio was about 50/50, and the highlight of the day occured around noon when Bob Oshinski, Aberdeen, NJ, hooked into a 10.1 pound fluke. Today's high hook was 7 keeoers.

Monday, 8/6/07 Report

Horrible day of Fluking. Not so nice weather. Only a few fluke caught. Just a bad day.

Sunday, 8/5/07 Report

The day started very slowly, and it looked like we were in for another clunker, but as the day progressed, the fishing improved. We had a good pick of fish for the last couple of hours of the day, with the last drift being the best. There is alot of peanut bunker, spearing, and rainfish along the channel edges as well as the back bay, and most of the fluke that I filleted were loaded with them. Two people ended the day with their limit of Fluke, and a couple more with 7 keepers. Ended the day with between 100 and 110 keepers for the day.

Saturday, 8/4/07 Report

Well, the inconsistent fishing continues. We had good conditions to start the day, but the fish did not cooperate. Worked the whole western side of the bay, and the Reach channel. Read a ton of bait, but the fluke didn't want to bite. Very disappointing day.

Friday, 8/3/07 Report

IMG_3733.JPG

Slow day today. Wind against tide for the whole trip. Very disappointing after yesterday, and last night's charter. Had a few shots here and there, but nothing great. Fished the Reach, and the western corner of the bay. Today's pool winner was Jim Handy with a 4 pound Fluke.

Joan Althausen, Middlesex, NJ, Won today's pool with this 8 pound fluke.

Fished the western end of the bay today. Conditions were horrible for most of the day with wind against tide. We did manage to pick fish though, and it ended up being an ok day. High hook was Paul Amadio, Aberdeen, NJ, with 7 keepers, and today's pool winner was Joan Althausen, Middlesex, NJ, with an 8 pound Fluke.

Wednesday, 8/1/07 Report

IMG_3692z.jpg

It seemed like a tough day today. Had horrible conditions all day. Slowly picked the fish. Fishing did pick up after the tide change. The last hour of the day was the best. We caught over 40 keepers during that time. Stayed in the back bay all day, and worked the channel edges. Ray Soyka, Linden, NJ, was today's high hook with 7 keepers, and Dave Brown, Woodbridge, NJ won today's pool with a 6 pound fish.
