Wednesday, 6/27/07 Report

The fishing bounced back today after a few days of tough fishing. Started the morning off Keansburg, and had fish on immediately. Made a couple of drifts, and headed to the eastern side of the Reach Channel. Again we had a good shot of fish to start, but as the tide changed, the fishing slowed. Once we started getting some incoming water, we headed to the Knoll, and had a good pick of shorts and keepers. Today's pool winner was a 8.5 pound Fluke, and high hook was 7.

Tuesday, 6/26/07 Report

Today started much like yesterday. We headed for the western side of the bay, and had a light west wind with an outgoing tide. After a few drifts there with no luck we headed to the middle of the Reach Channel. No success there either. It looked as if today was going to be a wash also, but after the tide change we headed to the Knoll. We did see some fish here, however the majority of them were short. We did pick an occasional keeper here and there. It was a good sign after a couple of days of tough fishing. Today's high hook had 5 fish, and the pool winner was 3 1/2 pounds.

Monday, 6/25/07 Report

IMG_3284.JPG

Amanda Vaqueiro won today's pool with this 4 pound Fluke.

Bad day of fishing today. We started in the back of the bay, and worked our way east across the Reach Channel with no luck. Even the change of tide around 11:00 didn't help. If you can think of your favorite Fluke spot, we probably covered it with no success. After the change of tide we went into the ocean, made a drift in Chapel Hill, and even tried Earle. The Fluke just did not want to bite. Tomorrow is another day!!!

Sunday, 6/25/07 Report

Headed to the western side of the Reach to begin the day. We had a decent shot of fish to start off, but that didn't last. We hung in the back of the bay until the tide change, and started working our way east. We picked a few fish on each stop, but it was not good at all. Made our way to Earle to finish the day, but more of the same. Tough day all around. Today's pool winner was a 5 pound Fluke and high hook had 6 keepers.

Saturday, 6/23/06 Report

OK fishing today. We fished all along the Reach, and Chapel Hill Channel, and had a slow pick of fish. We had some shots here and there, but overall it seemed slow. When I started to go around the boat and fillet, I realized that they did add up for some, and I was being a little tough on the day. High hook was 7, and today's pool winner was Dave Plumacher with a 4 pound Fluke.

Friday, 6/22/07 Report

Left the dock in a hurry this morning to catch the last bit of outgoing water. The wind was out of the west again, and once the tide changed, we would have no drift. Started in the middle of the Reach Channel where we saw all those bigger fish this past week, but the fish have moved from the channel. We did not see one fish. Made a move to a ledge just south of where we were fishing, and found a good body of fish. Super fishing for the last hour and a half of the tide. After the tide changed, the wind increased quite a bit. We made a few more drifts on the ledge, and then worked our way west to the flats around our buoy. We did catch a few here, but not enough for us to stay. Tried a couple of other spots in hopes of finding the larger fish that we were seeing, but the lack of drifting conditions made it impossible. We did have one person with their limit, and a few others with 5, and 6 fish. Steve Kerry was todays pool winner with a 3 pound Fluke.

Thursday, 6/21/07 Report

We took one on the chin today. Wind against tide all day. Unable to fish anywhere that we have been fishing. Made a few long drifts on th Reach, but absolutely no movement. Tried a few move different spots from Sandy Hook Channel, to Port Monmouth Beach, but no luck. Definitely the worst day so far fishing for Fluke, and it can be directly blamed on the conditions. Today's high hook was George Cariglia who had 5 fish. George was also today's pool winner.

Wednesday, 6/20/07 Report

Wind against tide was the story for most of today. Headed to the western side of the Reach to begin the day. Not much happening back there yet, so we went off to where we have had our best fishing the last few days. We SLOWLY picked some fish. We had no movement at all. After an hour we were off to the point of the Hook. We did pick some shorts and keepers around the tip. Made our last few drifts around the Ammo pier, and found a few more keepers there mixed in with the shorts, and Sea Robins. High hook today was 6 fish, and the pool winner was around 3 pounds. Overall, it was a little bit of a slow day. We saw alot more shorts, and Robins then we have seen the last couple of trips.

IMG_3260aaa.jpg

Headed right for the Raritan Reach Channel again today. Had an incoming tide with little to no wind at all. Started picking fish right away. Not fireball fishing by any means, but most of what we caught we kept. There are alot of nice sized fish along the channel, and today was another day where we saw some bigger fish. The biggest on the boat today was a 6.8 pound Fluke, and we had a few in the 5 pound range, along with a couple of 4's. Made a few drifts along the channels edge, slowly picking on all of them. The wind shifted to the southwest, and started to increase as the late morning went along. By 11:30 the wind was blowing a good 15 knots, making it impossible to stay in that area. Changed it up for the afternoon, and headed to Port Monmouth Beach. Made a few drifts there to finish the day, and picked a mix of shorts and keepers. Today's high hook was 7, with two people getting that number. The pool winning Fluke weighed in at 6.8 pounds.

IMG_3257a.jpg

Yvonne Botha, who traveled all the way from South Africa to enjoy some Jersey Fluke fishing, won today's pool with this 5 pound Fluke.

Started the day fishing the middle of the Reach Channel. We had a slow, steady pick of fish. Most of what we caught, we kept. Did not have anywhere near the same short fish action that we saw over the weekend. We did catch some nice sized fish again today. A couple of fish in the 3 to 4 pound range, and a 5 pounder. Around noon we saw some ship traffic in the channel, and it completely shut down the fishing. Made a move to the east around the TC Buoy, and didn't catch much. Today's pool winner was Yvonne Botha with a 5 pound fish. High hook today was 5 fish. Overall it was a slow day. A few people found it hard to get a Fluke in their bucket, but for others they added up nicely.

Jenna Jurewicz showing off her 10.2 pound Fluke caught during today's trip.

Well, we had some weekend!!! Two 10+ pound Fluke caught in two days. Today's superstar was Jenna Jurewicz who hooked her Fluke during the incoming tide in the Reach Channel. We had some good moments, and we also had some slow moments. Saw a good number of bigger fish again. Had quite a few 4's and 5's, with a 6 pounder on board as well. Stayed in the Reach Channel all day. We didn't catch as many fish as we did the past two days, but most of what we caught, we kept. Had horrible conditions to start, with a westerly breeze holding us up against an incoming tide, but after the change, everything worked out. It was a nice Father's Day, with a good number of keepers being landed, and also a good number of big fish.

Saturday, 6/16/07 Report

IMG_3193z.jpg

Kevin Meskill holding his 10.6 pound Fluke that he caught on today's trip.

Started the day at the tip of Sandy Hook. Caught the last hour of incoming tide. We had alot of action, but the keeper ratio was low. Made a move after the tide change to set up for the outgoing water, and still had good action. Around mid morning, we had the best moment of the day. Kevin Meskill hooked into a 10.6 pound Fluke. We did see a good amount of large fish. A few 4's, and a couple in the 5 pound range as well. Made a move to the Reach Channel to finish the day, and did find a few fish. Mostly keepers, and once again, good sized ones. Overall, it was very good fishing, but keeping for some was a little tough. We had some people with 5 or 6 keepers, and we had other people with 0 and 1.

Weekend Update

IMG_3192aa.jpg

Well, the story of the weekend has been DOORMATS!!! Two 10 pounders came up the past two days, with alot of other fish in the 5 to 7 pound range. Like I said a few posts ago, I have been stuck at work the past few days, and nights(Excellent problem to have!!!), and haven't had the time to report, but later tonight I will put up photos and reports from the weekend.

Friday, 6/15/07 Report

IMG_3188aa.jpg

"The Man, The Myth, The Legend" Kenny Havens, Hoboken, NJ, was today's high hook with 6 keepers.

Very good fishing today. We fished the point of the Hook all day, and had alot of action. The keeper ratio was way down, but we still had a fair amount of keepers. Kenny Havens, Hoboken, NJ, was high hook with 6 keepers, and over thirty shorts. Not a very large pool fish today. Only around 3 pounds.

Reports Update

I am sorry for the delay with the updates the past two days. I worked both trips, morning and night, and just did not have the time to post the reports. Sorry again!!

Thursday, 6/14/07 Report

AHHHhhh!!!! You have to love June in New Jersey!!! Overcast, east wind around 15 knots, and 55 degrees. What  a day. . . We started at the Coast Guard Station on Sandy Hook, and surprisingly caught the Fluke pretty well. We had alot of fish in the morning. The keeper ratio was down again, but because we were catching so many fish, there were a good amount of keepers mixed in. This fishing only lasted a few hours though. Once the tide started running good, the fish turned off. Bounced around to a few different spots around Sandy Hook, but couldn't get them to bite again. High hook was 6 keepers, and the pool fish was around 5 pounds. Alot of fish caught, but a horrible keeper ratio today.

Wednesday, 6/13/07 Report

Fishing improved today. We fished the tip of Sandy Hook all day, and caught a mix of shorts, and keepers. The keeper ratio was down, but we did catch alot of fish.

Tuesday, 6/12/07 Report

One word can sum up today's fishing. Disappointing!! We made drifts everywhere from the western end of the Reach, to Chapel Hill Channel, to The Coast Guard Ledge, and caught some fish on every drift, but not enough keepers on any of them. Had outgoing water for most of the trip. The tide changed around noon. Set up for the incoming where we have had some really good fishing the past couple of days, but more disappointment. Couldn't get anything consistent anywhere. Kenny Havens, Hoboken, NJ, was today's high hook with 6 keeper Fluke up to 4 pounds.

IMG_3180a.jpg

Well, we started the day where we left them biting yesterday, and nothing bit. The water temperature was around 70 degrees, and it looks like these fish are branching out into different parts of the bay. Made a drift or two further west along the Reach, but couldn't get a consistent bite going.  We headed east and made a few drifts in Chapel Hill Channel, and more of the same. We had a very slow pick of fish. Headed a little bit further east around the tip of the Hook, and set up for the change of tide. Just like yesterday, the last hour and a half of the trip was phenomenal fishing. Alot of keepers came up, along with a good number of shorts.  Bob Doichler, Union Beach, NJ, was high hook today with 6 keepers. Today's pool fish was a 4 pounder caught on a spearing/squid combo.

Rob Morrison, Harvey Weyouche, and John Bottles, holding the top three fish on the boat today.

Well, since the Soprano's are coming on in a few minutes, I'm going to cut to the chase, and get to buisness. Today's trip started poorly. We fished around Sandy Hook, and made some moves looking for fish between The Ammo Pier, and Chapel Hill Channel. Could not get anything going. Made a move late in the day to the Reach Channel, and had some really good fishing the last hour of the trip. Alot of fish came up with a good amount of keepers mixed in. A few people caught three and four keeper Fluke the last drift. Harvey Weyouche, Hoboken, NJ, won today's pool with a Fluke that weighed in just under 7 pounds. John Bottles, Edison, NJ, was close behind with a 6 pounder. You can bet anything that we will be starting the morning where we left off today!!!!

Saturday, 6/9/07 Report

IMG_3145a.jpg

Started the day making our first drift in the Reach Channel. An incoming tide and a easterly breeze made it difficult to fish because we were drifting over 2 knots. Moved to the tip of the Hook, and caught alot of shorts and Sea Robins. After a few drifts there, we moved to the eastern side of the Ammo Pier. Had 1 good drift there with a few keepers. Looked like things were going to get going, but it never happened. Overall it was a slow day with the keepers. We did catch quite a few shorts, but keepers were hard to come by today. We had a tie for today's pool. George Fidecaro, and Curtis, Matawan, NJ, each had a 4.10 pound Fluke.

Steve Kerry, Jay Tomlinson, and Gary Thompson holding a few fish from their catch today. All three fish were over 4 pounds, and Jay's was the largest on the boat for today's trip. The three of them combined for 10 keeper Fluke on the day.

Started the day at the tip of Sandy Hook, and caught fish immediately. Alot of shorts, and Sea Robins, but we did have some pretty good shots of keepers too. The action was good all day, but most of it was Sea Robins. If you could keep you bait in the water long enough without a Robin taking your hook, you would catch a Fluke. There are alot of fish in that area to be caught, and quite a few nice sized ones. We had four Fluke on the boat today that were over 4 pounds. Jay Tomlinson, Union, NJ, won today's pool with a 4 1/2 pound fish. Jay also had 4 keepers. We finished the day around the TC Buoy, and had a pick of shorts and a few keepers mixed in. Fishing has improved every day since the storm on Monday. Good signs for the weekend.

Mort Millinger, Randolph, NJ, won today's pool with this 4 pound Fluke. After the Fluke was successfully captured, and in a bucket, Mort was overheard saying, "Eat your heart out Rudy!!!"

Started the day fishing the tip of the Hook. We caught the beginning of the incoming tide, and had a nice east - southeasterly breeze pushing us around the point. Caught alot of fish, but the majority of them were shorts, and Sea Robins. Made a little move off the tip, and had the same results. We did pick some keepers, and we had a couple of nice fish too. A few Fluke in the 4 pound class were caught in the early afternoon, with the heaviest going to Mort Millinger, Randolph, NJ. Like I said, we did catch alot of fish, but not as many keepers as we were seeing the first 8 or 9 days of the season.

Wednesday, 6/6/07

Fished around Sandy Hook again today. Picked at the shorts and keepers. Fishing was good. A definite improvement from yesterday.

June 05, 2007

Tuesday, 6/5/07 Report

The wind and rain from yesterday really put a hurting on the fishing today. Started at the point of Sandy Hook. We couldn't fish outside because of a giant roll in the ocean. Caught mostly shorts. Moved around quite a bit between the Hook, and Ammo Pier. Very little bit, and what did was mainly shorts. Made a move further to the west around Port Monmouth, and finished the day with a pick of shorts, and a good shot of keepers mixed in. This is a good sign that shows that the Fluke are moving into the western part of the bay. Overall it was a slow day of fishing, but that can be directly attributed to the weather we had over the last 24 hours. High hook had 4 keepers, and Mike Butler, South River, NJ, won today's pool with a 4 pound Fluke.

Troy Hahn, Whitehouse Station, NJ, holding his pool winning, 3 1/2 pound Fluke from Sunday's trip.

Fishing was ok today, but not nearly as good as it has been. Made our first stop where we have had our best fishing the past few days, but after a few drifts the wind increased out of the southeast and made conditions very difficult for us to remain there. Moved to the Coast Guard Station and made a few drifts. Mostly short fish with an occasional keeper mixed in. Finished up the day just east of the Navy Pier, where we got a little shot of keepers to end the day. Like I said, it was an ok day. We probably saw more short fish today than we have on any other trip yet. The wind conditions did keep us from fishing where we have been, and as I write this report, it's blowing around 15 - 20 knots out of the east, so it doesn't look to good for tomorrow.

Saturday, 6/2/07 Report

IMG_3071 1.jpg

Another day with big fish!!! We followed up yesterday's two 8 pounders with a 7, two 6's and a 5 pounder today. Started off the day with the last bit of incoming tide, and had a very light west wind. We fished the northern tip of Sandy Hook, and had very good fishing. Keepeing was another story. The keeper ratio that I talked about the other day was way down. We did manage a few keepers before the tide change. Around 10:00 we set up for the outgoing water. Went into the deep of the channel, where we had our best fishing yesterday, and caught the fish good. Still, the keeper ratio was down. However, we did catch some big Fluke too. Don Cutrupi started it off with a fish around 6 pounds. He was followed up by our friend Lonnie, Matawan, NJ, who caught a 7 pound Fluke, and Kevin Meskill had a 6 pound fish as well. Around noon we had a wind shift to the south east, and it made for some difficult conditions again. Moved inside the hook, and finished the day around the Coast Guard Station, where we had a pick of shorts, some keepers, and everyone's favorite fish, the Sea Robin. Overall it was a good day of fishing. Today's high hook was Patrick Strang, Keyport, NJ, who had 5 keepers.

Friday 6/1/07 Report

I have to make this a fast report. Have to get back to boat for the night trip. Today's fishing was good. Alot more shorts than we have seen the past few days. We caught two big fish weighing in at just over 8 pounds. We went through a lull in the action during the tide change around 9:30. Had difficult conditions with the wind and tide after the change. 8 - 10oz. sinkers were the norm. Found our best fishing in the deep of Sandy Hook Channel. Today was not as good as yesterday, but it was ok.  Frank Moltisanti, Cranford, NJ, and George Krenick, Bridgewater, NJ, tied for today's pool with a pair of 8.5 pound Fluke's.
