Fished around Sandy Hook again. Water tempersture is up to around 63 degrees. We had ok fishing. Not as good as it has been. Alot of short fish today.
Another day of good Fluking. Still fishing the area around Sandy Hook, and getting great conditions. We picked alot of shorts with a few keepers mixed in during the outgoing tide, but when the tide changed for the last hour of our trip, we caught alot of bigger fish. High hook was 5 fish, and everyone had a few to bring home. James Orchard, Dover, NJ, won todays pool with a 5.12 pound Fluke. Like I said yesterday, I am extremely pleased with how the season has started.
Did not get out again today. Bring on the Fluke!!!!
Did not sail this morning. Lack of participation.
Slow Bass fishing the past couple of nights. Had horrible conditions with a cool southeast wind blowing pretty hard and a outgoing tide. We read quite a bit of life around the Orchard and Keansburg, but the Bass didn't bite. Ended up with 7 keeper Bass for the night. Water temperature was around 66 degrees with the outgoing tide, and dropped to 61.5 with the incoming.
Headed out to the Cedars for some Ling today. Fishing was excellent. We had well over 300 Ling on the boat with a couple of Sea Bass mixed in.
Very slow day today. We fished just south of Old Orchard Light all day. Read alot of fish, but nothing really wanted to bite. We had incoming tide all day, and the water temps were around 60 degrees. Ended the day with only a couple of Bass and a few Blues.
No fishing report today. We did not get out.
Well, chalk another one up to Mother Nature!! She's giving it to us good this year. 20 knot east wind has us tied to the dock again today.
Excellent Bass fishing tonight!!! Fished the western side of the Reach Channel. We had incoming tide with a fairly hard east wind, but that didn't stop the fish from biting. Alot of bigger Bass. We had two over 30 pounds, and quite a few in the 20 to 25 pound range. Four people had their limit, plus their bonus fish. Great night of fishing!!!!
No report today. We didn't get out.
Good fishing today. We headed out to the Cedar's and had a good catch of Ling with some Blackfish and Sea Bass mixed in. Made a few shifts on some different pieces of bottom, and caught fish on all of them. The bite did slow on the change of tide. Water temperature was 53 degrees, and we had a hard southwest wind all day.
Good fishing tonight. A mix of Bass and Blues. We fished Around the western side of the Reach Channel. Quite a few keeper Bass. Water temperature was 58 degrees, and we fished the just south of the western side of the Reach Channel. Randy Vena, who has been the 2007 boat Ace, won the pool with a 34 inch Striper.
No report. We didn't make it out today.
Well, once again, Mother Nature got us. We were unable to fish for Ling today because the ocean had a huge roll in it. Flounder was not an option because it looks like that hard wind from the weekend pushed them offshore. Instead, we fished for Striped Bass. We WILL begin Ling fishing on Saturday. Today's fishing was ok. We did catch a few Bass with some Bluefish mixed in. The water temperature is still way down from what it should be for this time of year. Please take note that we will be Bass fishing every morning until Fluke season opens on the 26th, except Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Flounder fishing was very poor today. Looks like the combination of the bluefish moving in, and the hard northeast wind over the weekend may have pushed them offshore. Most likely we will give this fishery a few more days to see if it bounces back. If it does not, we will switch over to Striped Bass fishing during the day. Just a reminder that we will be fishing for Ling on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7:30am to 4:00pm.
Very slow flounder fishing today. The hard northeast wind that we had yesterday completely shut down the fishing for today. There was a giant roll in the ocean, and it usually takes a day or two for these fish to decide that they want to eat again. The forcast looks ok for the next couple of days, so hopefully we will be able to put a good catch together before they move offshore.
We have been catching quite a few stripers at night, but not many keepers mixed in. The majority of the fish are in the 22 - 26 inch range. However, we did catch 6 keepers for 7 people tonight. The water temperature is still 10 degrees below what it was this time last year.
The 20 knot northeast wind kept us at the dock this morning. Ugly, nasty morning!!!
Ok fishing till the change of tide. Not much bit after that. Fished the Cedars all day. Randy Vena was high hook with 6 flounder.
Starting May 9th, we will begin sailing for Ling every Wednesday and Saturday Mornings. Those trips will be from 7:30am to 4:00pm.
Fishing was ok today. The flounder moved out into the ocean, and we fished the Cedars all day. We caught the majority of the fish on the change of tide. Water temperature was 51.7 degrees. We did notice the arrival of the bluefish. There were quite a few large schools around the boat. Todays high hook was our good friend Jim Handy, who had 5 in his bucket. The pool winner was Leo Viviano, Clifton, NJ. Leo won the pool with a 18 inch flounder. On a different note, I know I haven't posted any pictures this week. My son is making his communion on Saturday, and I have been busy trying to get my house ready for his party. On Monday afternoon I will post all the photos that I have. So, if you are looking for that picture I took of you with your "deadliest catch", check back on Monday night.
No report today other than we passed our inspection with flying colors. Everyone safety is ensured for another year!!
Due to our annual Coast Guard inspection, we will not be sailing Thursday, May 3rd morning. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
Fishing for stripers last night was very good. Keeping was not good. We boated well over 60 fish, however only 1 was a keeper. This was the first night that we had a lot of action. The water quality finally cleared up from all the runoff coming out of the rivers, and the water temperature was up to around 54 degrees. It was good to see some good fishing for a change, and the best is still to come.
Nothing to report. We didn't sail today. I know that the rain kept everyone home this morning. The forcast for the next week looks really good, and I hope we can take advantage of the good fishing that we had this week. I think we still have a couple of weeks left before these fish move offshore. The water temperature is still a little below what it should be for this time of year, and we did catch some in the back of the bay. So, like I said, I hope we can take advantage of it.
Well, I have to say that I am glad that April is over. Hopefully, May brings us some better weather. Fishing was good again today. We are still fishing the area around The Ammo Pier. Made our first drop around slack tide, and had a good shot of fish right away. Once the outgoing tide started to run, we had a decent pick for the rest of the day. Some moments were better than others, but overall it was a pretty good day again. High hook was Eddie Vasquez, Edison, NJ, who had 9 flounder, and todays pool winner was Phil Kurtz, Rahway, NJ, with a huge 19 1/2 inch flounder.
We will NOT be sailing Thursday, May 3rd morning due to our annual Coast Guard inspection. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
