Lou Delmastro, and George Cariglia holding a pair of fish from todays catch. Lou won todays pool with a 3 pound fish, and George caught his limit.

Very good fishing today. We had outgoing water all trip, and the Fluke started biting right away. We are still fishing around the tip of Sandy Hook, and had perfect drifting conditions once again. The keeper/short ratio has been pretty good so far, and today was no different. George Cariglia, Lodi, NJ, had his limit of 8 fish, and we had a couple other people with 7 keepers. Everyone had something in their buckets, whether it was 2, or 5, or a limit catch.  Lou Delmastro won todays pool with a 3 pound Fluke, and he also had 5 keepers. The bite did slow toward the end of the tide, but at that point we were getting ready to head home. Great weather, and a great day of fishing. It's always good to see happy faces walking off the boat at the end of the day.

Tuesday, 5/29/07

Another day of good Fluking. Still fishing the area around Sandy Hook, and getting great conditions. We picked alot of shorts with a few keepers mixed in during the outgoing tide, but when the tide changed for the last hour of our trip, we caught alot of bigger fish. High hook was 5 fish, and everyone had a few to bring home. James Orchard, Dover, NJ, won todays pool with a 5.12 pound Fluke. Like I said yesterday, I am extremely pleased with how the season has started.

Great fishing again today. We fished around Sandy Hook, and had perfect conditions, west wind with outgoing tide. Caught a mix of shorts and blues, with a few keepers mixed in. Made a shift to set up for the change of tide, and it payed off. Super fishing for the last hour and a half of the trip, and the keeper ratio was much better. High hook was 6 fish, and Juan Ortiz won the pool with a 5 pound fish. Juan and Harvey Weyouche teamed up to bag 11 keepers.  This is some start to a year alot of us thought would be a rough one!!
Once again I apologize for the delays with the reports this weekend. I'll figure out another way of making posts when I am on the boat all day and night. (Hint to John, Wireless Internet. haha)

IMG_3018.JPG

Sorry for the delay with the reports. I worked double trips this weekend and was short on time to post them. . . . Today wasn't as good as yesterday, but we had ok fishing. Started the morning around the Coast Guard Station, and had a pick of short with a few keepers mixed in. Moved offshore a little for the change of tide, and caught a few. Not much drift with incoming tide. A southwest breeze kept us pretty much dead in our tracks for the remainder of the day. We ended up with a good amount of fish, but no where near as good as yesterday.

Ended the day with around 100 keepers, with a 8 pounder being the biggest. Sorry so short today, have to get ready to head back out for tonights trip.

Did not sail this morning. Lack of participation.

Wednesday, 5/23/07 Evening Report

Slow Bass fishing the past couple of nights. Had horrible conditions with a cool southeast wind blowing pretty hard and a outgoing tide. We read quite a bit of life around the Orchard and Keansburg, but the Bass didn't bite. Ended up with 7 keeper Bass for the night. Water temperature was around 66 degrees with the outgoing tide, and dropped to 61.5 with the incoming.

Wednesday, 5/23/07 Report

Headed out to the Cedars for some Ling today. Fishing was excellent. We had well over 300 Ling on the boat with a couple of Sea Bass mixed in.

May 23, 2007

Tuesday, 5/22/07 Report

Very slow day today. We fished just south of Old Orchard Light all day. Read alot of fish, but nothing really wanted to bite. We had incoming tide all day, and the water temps were around 60 degrees. Ended the day with only a couple of Bass and a few Blues.

Bryan Turner holding his 38 inch, pool winning Striper.

Tough day of Bass fishing today. We had horrible conditions with the wind blowing 20 out of the west, and an incoming tide. We made drops everywhere from the 20 Rock in the Reach Channel, to the Navy Pier. There was alot of surface life around the Pier, and we jigged up a good amount of small Blues. That died with the change of tide. Went back to the western side of the bay, where we have had our best fishing the last few days, but nothing materialized. Ended up with a couple of keeper Bass and around 50 Bluefish. Water tempersture was 57 degrees.

Saturday, 5/19/07 Report

Willie Wakefield holding his pool winning, 21 pound Bass from todays trip.

Fishing was good today. We fished the western side of the Reach again. The wind blew pretty hard from the west, and we had incoming tide till around 11:00. Caught a keeper Striper, and quite a few Bass in the 24 to 27 inch range in the morning, along with some blues mixed in. Didn't catch a thing during the tide change, but once we started to get some outgoing water, we started picking the Bass again. Caught them good the rest of the day, and they were all bigger fish. Willie Wakefield won todays pool with a 21 pound Striper, just edging out John Hannah who had a 20 pound fish.

Friday, 5/18/07 Report

Well, chalk another one up to Mother Nature!!  She's giving it to us good this year. 20 knot east wind has us tied to the dock again today.

Thursday, 5/17/07 Evening Report

Excellent Bass fishing tonight!!! Fished the western side of the Reach Channel. We had incoming tide with a fairly hard east wind, but that didn't stop the fish from biting. Alot of bigger Bass. We had two over 30 pounds, and quite a few in the 20 to 25 pound range. Four people had their limit, plus their bonus fish. Great night of fishing!!!!

Good fishing today. We headed out to the Cedar's and had a good catch of Ling with some Blackfish and Sea Bass mixed in. Made a few shifts on some different pieces of bottom, and caught fish on all of them. The bite did slow on the change of tide. Water temperature was 53 degrees, and we had a hard southwest wind all day.

IMG_2895.JPG

Very good fishing again today. We fished just outside of our harbor. Water temperature was 61.5 degrees. Had a 25 knot southwest wind with outgoing tide which made for some fun with keeping the lines strait, but it all worked out. Caught a mix of Bass and Blues again. Bob Doichler, Union Beach, NJ, caught his limit, plus had his bonus fish. The largest Striper today was around the 20 pound mark again. It has been excellent Bass fishing day, and night.

Good fishing again. We had outgoing tide for most of the day. Water temperature was around 58 degrees. Fished the flats off Keansburg, and had a solid pick of Bass and Blues. We have seen some bigger fish the last week or so. Mike Stoner, Wescosville, PA, had his limit on Bass and won todays pool with a 38 inch, 20 pound Bass. Good fishing, beautiful weather!!!

Patrick Strang, Keyport, NJ,  with a 38 inch Bass that he caught today.
First let me start off by saying Happy Mother's Day to my Mom, and all the other Mother's that fish with us and check out my reports. Although I am getting grey hair at an early age, and I know that it comes from my Mother's side of the family, I still think she is the best!! (I am biased of course)
Today's fishing was a little slow at the start. We had a hard northeast wind all day, and that pretty much shut down the fishing. We did start to pick some Bass late in the day after the tide change, but overall it was kind of slow. Ended up with a few keeper Bass and a half dozen bluefish. Patrick Strang, Keyport, NJ, caught the biggest of the day which was almost 20 pounds.

Saturday, 5/12/07 Evening Report

Good fishing tonight. A mix of Bass and Blues. We fished Around the western side of the Reach Channel. Quite a few keeper Bass. Water temperature was 58 degrees, and we fished the just south of the western side of the Reach Channel. Randy Vena, who has been the 2007 boat Ace, won the pool with a 34 inch Striper.

Todays pool winner was Tim Dickerson, Ridge Field Park, NJ, with a 5 pound Blackfish.

Friday, 5/11/07 Report

IMG_2847.JPG

Good fishing today. Made our first drop around Old Orchard. We Settled in and waited for the tide change around 10:00. Nothing bit. After we got some incoming water, we made a move west and caught fish right after dropping anchor. There was alot of life around. Saw some bunker. Quite a few big swirls on the surface. We had steady action the rest of the day. Most of the fish were bass, but there were some big blues mixed in. The biggest striper we caught was 32 inches, and we had several others that were over 30. Things are looking up!!!!

Thursday, 5/10/07 Evening Bass Update

IMG_2832.JPG

Jim Millett with his two keepers from Thursday night.
The last few nights have been good on the bass grounds. Quite a few keepers have been caught along with some bluefish that are mixed in. We are fishing anywhere from just outside our harbor to Old Orchard Light.

No report. We didn't make it out today.

Wednesday, 5/9/07 Report

Well, once again, Mother Nature got us. We were unable to fish for Ling today because the ocean had a huge roll in it. Flounder was not an option because it looks like that hard wind from the weekend pushed them offshore. Instead, we fished for Striped Bass. We WILL begin Ling fishing on Saturday. Today's fishing was ok. We did catch a few Bass with some Bluefish mixed in. The water temperature is still way down from what it should be for this time of year. Please take note that we will be Bass fishing every morning until Fluke season opens on the 26th, except Wednesdays and Saturdays.

May 08, 2007

Tuesday, 5/8/07 Report

Flounder fishing was very poor today. Looks like the combination of the bluefish moving in, and the hard northeast wind over the weekend may have pushed them offshore. Most likely we will give this fishery a few more days to see if it bounces back. If it does not, we will switch over to Striped Bass fishing during the day. Just a reminder that we will be fishing for Ling on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7:30am to 4:00pm.

Monday, 5/7/07 Report

Very slow flounder fishing today. The hard northeast wind that we had yesterday completely shut down the fishing for today. There was a giant roll in the ocean, and it usually takes a day or two for these fish to decide that they want to eat again. The forcast looks ok for the next couple of days, so hopefully we will be able to put a good catch together before they move offshore.

Sunday, 5/6/07 Striper Update

We have been catching quite a few stripers at night, but not many keepers mixed in. The majority of the fish are in the 22 - 26 inch range. However, we did catch 6 keepers for 7 people tonight. The water temperature is still 10 degrees below what it was this time last year.

Sunday, 5/6/07 Report

The 20 knot northeast wind kept us at the dock this morning. Ugly, nasty morning!!!

Saturday, 5/5/07 Report

Ok fishing till the change of tide. Not much bit after that. Fished the Cedars all day. Randy Vena was high hook with 6 flounder.

May 04, 2007

Ling Trips Starting May 9th

Starting May 9th, we will begin sailing for Ling every Wednesday and Saturday Mornings. Those trips will be from 7:30am to 4:00pm.

Friday, 5/4/07 Report

Fishing was ok today. The flounder moved out into the ocean, and we fished the Cedars all day. We caught the majority of the fish on the change of tide. Water temperature was 51.7 degrees. We did notice the arrival of the bluefish. There were quite a few large schools around the boat. Todays high hook was our good friend Jim Handy, who had 5 in his bucket. The pool winner was Leo Viviano, Clifton, NJ. Leo won the pool with a 18 inch flounder. On a different note, I know I haven't posted any pictures this week. My son is making his communion on Saturday, and I have been busy trying to get my house ready for his party. On Monday afternoon I will post all the photos that I have. So, if you are looking for that picture I took of you with your "deadliest catch", check back on Monday night.

Storm Video

Since some of us are into "The Deadliest Catch", and the seas that they fish in usually become a topic of discussion at some point during the day, I thought that I would entertain some of you with a video. It doesn't have anything to do with the show. It is a home video someone shot of a cruise ship leaving a harbor during a storm. Looks like a nice vacation to be on. Click Here

Thursday, 5/3/07 Report

No report today other than we passed our inspection with flying colors. Everyone safety is ensured for another year!!

We Will NOT Be Fishing Thursday Morning 5/3/07

Due to our annual Coast Guard inspection, we will not be sailing Thursday, May 3rd morning. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Evening Striper Fishing Update

Fishing for stripers last night was very good. Keeping was not good. We boated well over 60 fish, however only 1 was a keeper. This was the first night that we had a lot of action. The water quality finally cleared up from all the runoff coming out of the rivers, and the water temperature was up to around 54 degrees. It was good to see some good fishing for a change, and the best is still to come.

Wednesday, 5/2/07 Update

Nothing to report. We didn't sail today. I know that the rain kept everyone home this morning. The forcast for the next week looks really good, and I hope we can take advantage of the good fishing that we had this week. I think we still have a couple of weeks left before these fish move offshore. The water temperature is still a little below what it should be for this time of year, and we did catch some in the back of the bay. So, like I said, I hope we can take advantage of it.

Tuesday, 5/1/07 Report

Well, I have to say that I am glad that April is over. Hopefully, May brings us some better weather. Fishing was good again today. We are still fishing the area around The Ammo Pier. Made our first drop around slack tide, and had a good shot of fish right away. Once the outgoing tide started to run, we had a decent pick for the rest of the day. Some moments were better than others, but overall it was a pretty good day again. High hook was Eddie Vasquez, Edison, NJ, who had 9 flounder, and todays pool winner was Phil Kurtz, Rahway, NJ, with a huge 19 1/2 inch flounder.

We Will NOT Be Sailing Thursday Morning

We will NOT be sailing Thursday, May 3rd morning due to our annual Coast Guard inspection. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
